Hey Mr Technologist
I have a very techy question. Can you help me out?
How did you create the theme for your blog?
I'm trying to create a theme for my wordpress blog through Artisteer (a theme creating program for blogs) and anyway I created the perfect theme I want but I think I need an FTP client to upload it... I downloaded Filezilla and don't know the details to connect to the server (I've tried several combinations, and it's not working).
I think the other option is to download the actual wordpress software which can allow me to upload a customised theme... Well I downloaded it and it comes in a zip file (which I extracted) and I have no idea where to go from there!
Now I don't even know if it's true that you need a web host in order to download a customised theme. Some sources online say you do, some say you don't.
Can you tell me where to go from here? Help!!
Many thanks,
Lucy xx

Hey Lucy,
If you want the ability to completly customise themes and layout of your your blog you will need to go with a web host.
From there you can upload the word press files through FTP, a great free ftp program is CUTE FTP. You can then apply the themes you have designed or apply 1 of the thousands of free templates out in the internet world. To do it this way, although a little tricky to setup if alot more flexable in the long run.
The Technologist site is built using Drupal...which is an open source program with thousands of "modules" and "blocks" which can be fun and useful.
There is also Joomla which i am checking out at the moment. All are great and have loads off free support.
Hope this helps

The Everlasting Blog Stopper...
There is no dought about it we live in a bloggers world...The ability to communicate thought, information, opinion and news is at a place we could not have dreamed of 30 years ago.I have just test driven the latest bloggers tech tool...its the Sony Bloggie and no I am not speaking crudly...
The Sony Bloggie is a MP4 HD Snap Camera a new generation of cameras designed for ease of use and fast transer onto and over the internet.
Now as a regular blogger I was very keen to get my hands on this piece of technology I was hoping for a device that would speed up the process of interviewing, shooting, photographing and recording blog peices. The big questions is can it do all these things.....the short answer is well....YES the long answer is:
The Sony Bloggie is a great concept, I hope these devices are here to stay but it falls short...well short in its performance. The 5.0 megapixle camera takes photos remanicent of a camera phone from 2-3 years back and the video footage although designed for use online produces poor quality footage. Which from experience I have always found Sony imaging equipment to produce nothing but high quality images with great colour and superior sound. What I like about the Sony Bloggie is:Easy setup it has an inbuilt USB adaptor and onboard software ready to use.Comes in great colours Purple, Pink, White and Blue making it fashionable. It charges off the USB connection so can be charged on any computer with easy. and can be mounted on a tripod for easy of use when you are on your own.If I had to score the Bloggie I would give it10 / 10 for the idea 5 / 10 for easy operation3 / 10 for the performanceMy advice to Sony would be please keep the idea and build another Bloggie...but with better optics, better image stability and maybe a GPS tracker would help us bloggers......Remember if you have any questions or comments send me an email.

Friend or Foe
If you spend alot of time sending and recieving email, you may have noticed an increase in strange and unusual emails.

I have been recieving emails from sources claiming they are Ebay, UPS, Financial institutes and my personal favorite is the overseas relatives that die and leave you millions!!!!
The problem with these emails is they almost certainly are from scammers or hackers attempting to stamp there place in the world through digital destruction....

If you dont have Anti Virus software...get it. There are no excuses, I like AVG Anti Virus...Its free for personal use and has a great auto update service that is seamless. http://free.avg.com/au-en/homepage.
Keep your virus software updated...
When in doubt .......dont dare the digital demons!!!! delete it.

With the speed email can get around the world and the true global nature of the internet, scam mail and viruses can be around the world a couple of times before the anti virus companys pick them up and neutralise them.
So what to do.....

Well there are a few things I would suggest to do to help defend yourself against these digital demons..

I am talking VERY UPDATED, set the auto update features to hourly....(if you are not sure email me and I will help you through the setup)
Any email you regularly recieve set it to auto file to its own folder using "Rules". (if you are not sure email me and I will help you through the setup)
Check the email address of the sender...eg. When I recieve a fake email from ebay the sending email address is always from a different source.
Financial organisations will NEVER and I mean NEVER ask for passwords, contact detail updates, names or any other personal information over an email....NEVER give personal details to anyone through and email....
